Costa Cruises has been sailing the oceans of the world for the past 60 years, providing the best of Italian style hospitality and entertainment. The Costa Cruises brand currently operates 14 cruise ships, which all sail under the Italian flag and provide cruise holidays in the Mediterranean, Northern Europe, the Caribbean, the Indian Ocean, the Middle East, South East Asia and South America.
Costa Cruises is a British-American owned Italian cruise line, based in Genoa, Italy. Founded in 1924, the company originally operated cargo ships, until the introduction of passenger services in 1947, with regular services between Italy and South America. The company later converted its entire fleet to full time cruising, and as an independent company became one of the largest cruise operators in Europe.
Acquired by Carnival Corporation in 2000, Costa Cruises is now one of 11 brands operated by Carnival Corporation & PLC, a British-American-Panamanian corporation, and the world’s largest cruise ship operator. It is a dual listed company, with headquarters at Carnival Place in the Doral suburb of Miami, Florida, USA and at Carnival House in Southampton, England, UK.
Today, Costa Cruises Group is one of the main operating companies in the Carnival group, with executive control of the groups activities in Europe. The company is responsible for operation of Costa Cruises in Italy, AIDA Cruises in Germany and Ibero Cruises in Spain.
Costa Cruises fleet is Europe’s largest and most advanced, has a total of 14 ships in service and 2 on order, each with her own distinctive characteristics and unique style. By 2012 the Costa fleet will be 16 strong with total Guest capacity of approximately 45,000. All of the vessels fly the Italian flag and sail each year to 250 destinations in the Mediterranean, Northern Europe, the Baltic Sea, the Caribbean, South America, the United Arab Emirates, the Far East, the Indian Ocean and the Red Sea.

Costa Favolosa is predicted to enter service in July 2011. Costa Favolosa and sister ship Costa Fascinosa were ordered in October 2007 (laid down by Fincantieri’s Marghera shipyard) as part of a 2.4 billion euro expansion of the Costa Cruises fleet, with five ships entering service between 2009 and 2012 to increase the company’s passenger capacity by 50%. Costa Favolosa will cost 510 million euro to build.
The 3000-passenger Costa Favolosa is a sister ship to the Costa Pacifica, Costa Serena, and Costa Concordia. Like other Costa ships, the atmosphere will be “Italian-style”, filled with lively fun. Costa Favolosa gleams just like a real castle. Crystal, marble, onyx and alabaster: the glamour of the precious materials and the elegance of every last detail will amaze you. Luminous and iridescent rhombuses will seduce you in the gigantic Atrium, endless drops of Swarovsky crystal will enrapture you in the Party Salon and precious marble and granite decorations will delight you in the Club Restaurant. To demonstrate the international flavor of the ship, all written materials, including the daily program and menus, are in six languages–English, Italian, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and German.
Costa Favolosa has many onboard areas supporting its fun ambiance. A feeling of total well-being will embrace you in many different ways, but nothing compares to the relaxation you feel when you’re immersed in the Jacuzzi on the veranda of your Samsara Suite, gazing out at the immensity of the sea. Two of the pools can be covered with retractable domes, making the pools usable in all weather. In addition, the ship has a large Samsara Spa and accompanying spa suites.
